Jacque Bell recently retired from a thirty-five year career as a child life manager and child life specialist, supporting children, young adults and their families in three pediatric hospitals. The first fourteen years were spent at the University of Nebraska Medical Center where she grew a stellar team of child life specialists who cared for families coping with cancer, bone marrow and liver transplants. The last twenty years were dedicated to direct patient care on the Adolescent Young Adult Unit and PICU at Baystate Children's Hospital. The child life team there was also grown, now covering virtually every area where children receive pediatric care and support. She helped create the BCH Patient and Family Advisory Council, co-facilitated it, and fostered numerous patient- and family-centered care policies and initiatives.
Jacque authored a variety of pediatric articles, teaching materials, and a bereavement brochure which has provided guidance nationally to families, medical professionals, and counselors. She was a child life instructor for three years at Wheelock College in Boston and presented on a broad spectrum of psychosocial issues facing families in crisis at national conferences.
Her greatest love is of family. She enjoys time with her amazing son, his wife and two children
She counts herself blessed to have known and loved the remarkable Cory Garwacki and to learn from his example of what strength, positivity, and resilience can accomplish. His family is counted among the best of the best she has ever known - professionally and personally
