2nd Annual Live to Give GalaHOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – About 200 people gathered at the Log Cabin in Holyoke, Friday night, for the 2nd Annual “Live to Give” Gala. The event is in honor of Cory Garwacki.
Cory was born in 1987 with a rare condition called “short gut syndrome”, and wasn’t expected to survive more than a few days, but no one ever told Cory. He underwent more than 100 surgeries, and lived until 2014. He was 27-years-old.
Beth Garwacki, Cory’s mother, told 22News her son’s mission of “Live to Give” lives on; “It made him feel really good to be able to help somebody. So, anytime he could help out with one of his favorite charities, or something he was really passionate about, then he put everything he had into it.”
In 2016, the Cory J. Garwacki Foundation raised $47,000. The money went to several charities and helped three students, including a transplant student, with money for college.
22News Anchor Rich Tettemer was a life-long friend of Cory; they met during the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon.
