Masslive 2nd Annual Live to Give GalaHOLYOKE-- With the aim of honoring the late East Longmeadow native Cory Garwacki, the second-annual "Live to Give" gala in his honor was held Friday at The Log Cabin in Holyoke.
Garwacki grew up in East Longmeadow, but really, he grew up in hospitals as he suffered from short bowel (or short gut) syndrome.
His memory is carried on by his mom and dad, who fought the noble fight with him for 27 years with the help of his sister, Sarah, her husband and all those family members and friends. The Cory J. Garwacki Foundation was officially launched in 2015 with a kickoff party at the History of Springfield Museum at the Quadrangle.

The Red Sox fan's 27-year battle with health issues was an inspiration.
Its motto is "Live to Give,'' and its goal is offer scholarships in the field of communication, while also supporting various children's charities and raising awareness of key health care issues.
